On being vertically challenged

I never gave much thought to my being short. I am a hefty 5” flat. The machine in Mercury drugstores which can measure your body mass index as well as the amount of fat in your body told me my height was just 4.11xxx” with the other decimals(noted by xxx), if rounded off would make me 4.12” which I believe roughly translates to 5”. So at least I hit the 5’s.

I was never really bothered by my height. Even to work now I would wear Chuck Taylor’s which are basically flat sneakers who wouldn’t help in any way with my increasing my height. I simply refused to wear heels although I know that they would enhance my otherwise short stature.

For me, being small has it’s advantages. For one, I don’t have to bend my head when passing over low passages.

It is this exact habit which put me in trouble last night.

Being used to not bending my head, I miscalculated the entrance to a jeepney and ended up bumping my head. Ouch! I got a pretty nice bump for that. And I was just on my way to work! I thought I’d need an ice pack to relieve the pain but good thing it subsided in due time.

And the funny thing about it was the driver’s comment: “Halangkawon ka na gayud miss.” (You seem to be very tall).

I guess I was tall enough by that jeepney, and it’s driver’s, standards. ☺
